Woohoo! Let’s celebrate the new Scottish galleries at the National (online)
Tue 31 Oct 2023
12:45 - 1:30pm
The new rooms for historic Scottish art at the National open to the public from 30 September 2023. From that date much more of the nation’s very fine collection of Scottish paintings, works on paper and sculptures will be readily accessible, in a beautiful new set of galleries. The result of over ten years of planning, fund-raising, and implementation, this will be a key marker for both Scottish art and the National Galleries of Scotland.
In this lunchtime lecture, Co-Director and Assistant Curator of Celebrating Scotland’s Art: The Scottish National Gallery Project, Tricia Allerston and Freya Spoor, reflect upon the new displays. In the immortal words of Kool & the Gang: ‘Celebrate good times, come on. This is your celebration’.
To meet demand we are also offering an online live stream of the event. Space is very limited, please do not come to the event without a pre-booked ticket.
Our partial Changing Places toilet has all of the facilities of a full Changing Places toilet, and though the floor area meets the overall size requirement (13.54m2 minimum), it is just a little too narrow to be classed as a full Changing Places toilet.
There are a limited number of small lockers available, but there is no space to store large items of luggage.
There is limited on street parking close by including for those with a blue badge.
The National can be found just off Princes Street in the city centre.
Become a Friend to enjoy unique access to the nation’s art collection with unlimited free entry to exhibitions, a 10% discount in our gallery shops & cafés and a bespoke programme of events.
