Join Lucy Askew, Chief Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, for a guided tour through Alberta Whittle | create dangerously, by the celebrated Barbadian-Scottish artist. Offering an encounter with the remarkable breadth and richness of her practice, the exhibition includes the two major installations Alberta created for the Venice Biennale in 2022, where she represented Scotland to critical acclaim. Alberta explores the history and legacies of the transatlantic slave trade, Scotland and the UK’s role in Empire, and the violence of colonialism which continues to permeate society today. Alberta examines these subjects with generosity and compassion, centring care as a means of resisting racism.
